Getting around
the city and the suburbs is a breeze with Singapore's extensive and reliable public transport system. The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) operates a network of trains covering business, shopping and residential areas. Trains run from 5.30am to 12.30am, every three to eight minutes.
Public buses run daily from 5.30am to midnight. There are also extended night services which cost slightly more.
Over 18,000 taxis ply the streets round the clock. You may queue for one at a taxi stand or make a booking through the taxi company's hotline or website. Taxi carry a maximum of four passengers and some may stop at taxi stands along major roads. You may otherwise have to flag for one.
Bus and MRT routes and fares can be found in the TransitLink Guide, which is sold at newsagents, newsstands and major bookstores for S$1.50.
